WHO WE ARE
So glad you found us and welcome.
I am Beth Millman, Founder and CDO (Chief Dog Officer) of Dogs of Los Angeles®, a blog, and online community (you can find us on Instagram) created simply because I love dogs and am guessing you do too.
We can learn so many life lessons from our four-legged friends, and in a world of increasing polarization, dogs’ only loyalty is to YOU. I want this to be a place where you can come for some happiness, read a dog story on the blog or on social media, and leave with a smile on your face after spending a few minutes of your day with us.
I want to show Los Angeles (including the LA state of mind) through the eyes of our dogs, and share the many fascinating lifestyles, people, places and experiences, told from the perspective of our dogs, in their voice, assuming they could talk and tell us what they really think.
Our dogs are as diverse as the people of this city, and this is my interpretation of their lives, based on interviews I personally conduct with both the dogs and their people. Of course, it is subject to my bias, the perspective of the dog’s owner, and most importantly, the dog him or herself!
I know that not all dogs are living the lives I chose to highlight in these stories. Over time, this site will grow to reflect a multiplicity of different dogs, different stories and different lives. We won’t alway ONLY focus on dogs that live in LA but will focus on dogs that have the LA “state of mind” no matter where they live!
As a side note, I do this site around a very full-time career working for a national organization in the entertainment industry based in Los Angeles.
Where do I live?
Prior to 2021, I lived on the edge of downtown Los Angeles in a loft I owned and lived in for 13 years. With the COVID pandemic, I ended up selling my loft, bought a townhome and relocated to South Florida to a charming beach town called Delray Beach. I moved in order to be closer to my parents who were having some health challenges and needed one of their kids to be close by. I will be going back and forth to Los Angeles for work as necessary, since the organization I work for is headquartered there, but my domicile and residence is now in Delray Beach, Florida since January 2021 which makes a brand around Los Angeles a bit more challenging.
That being said, Los Angeles is a state of mind and we have lots of dogs with the “Dogs of LA vibe” here in the South Florida area. Finally, Dogs of Los Angeles® is my love letter to the city that helped give me an amazing career and life. I met incredible friends, and got exposed to some of the best entertainment and culture of any city in the world, along with some of the best dogs you will ever meet.
Do you have dogs?
Yes, I have two. Quincy is a 15 year old emotional lhasa apso poodle mix (or that is what we guess he is.) He is high maintenance, and the most stubborn dog you will ever meet. That being said, he is funny, kind, affectionate, and loves food. His favorite toys are tennis balls and bones. He also likes the finer things in life. I always say Quincy thinks he is Beverly Hills when he is really Beverly Hills adjacent.
Oscar is a 11 year old terrier mix and has a determined and energetic personality. If Quincy is highfalutin and Beverly Hills (adjacent), Oscar is working class and sheer Brockton (that would be Massachusetts where I am originally from) and tough as nails. He clawed his way into our life and is not letting go. He is a smart, sensitive soul and you can learn more about his story on our first Dogs of LA post entitled: “Oscar, Is it Me You are Looking For?” here.
