PART TWO: Oscar, Is it Me You Are Looking For?

Oscar, a terrier dog's story. Is it Me You are Looking For?

Oscar, Is it Me You Are Looking For? A mixed terrier dog’s story.

Part 2

“That might have been one of the best moments of my life.  My Mom later found out when she went to get my license at the Shelter I came from that a woman turned me in because she had too many dogs. The shelter employee said I was one of her favorites and she printed out pictures of me. I was only there for about a week before my Mom found me at Pan Pacific Park at the Best Friends event.  Later my Mom got in the mail my license form and it turned out that my name is Wesley or at least maybe that is what she shelter decided to name me. And that at the time I was three years old. Now I am about 10, turning 11.  She had no idea of that at the time, as she asked the volunteers at the event what would be a good name.  I was really overgrown and neglected and people suggested Rod because my hair looked like the singer Rod Stewart, but one of the volunteers came up with Oscar and it just fit.  So Oscar it was.

While at the event Roger noticed after I was adopted that there was something wrong with my leg. It turns out I had a luxating patella and a back in 2018,  I had a major surgery due to having a serious Grade 4 knee condition which means mine was the most serious. I also had 9 months of physical therapy and that brought my knee back at a place called paw Rehab. It also meant my Mom delayed replacing her 14 year old car as all the money she saved for it went to my PT.  But I am worth it.  I howled with joy every time I got to go to physical therapy because they took such good care of me and I loved the women who worked there.  I like attention and I like massage.  It  feels good and I feel good when people notice me.

I tend to be very territorial with toys and food.  I think it is because I spent the beginning of my life with many other dogs and they took my food and toys. Now if my brother gets too close to my food or a toy, I growl and bark. It annoys my Mother but I just want my things for me.  I think he does it to annoy me. My Mom seems to favor him anyway, and I need to keep my toys for me.  One time my Mom caught Quincy eating my food so she saw that it is not me exaggerating but that he sneaks my food when she is not looking.

I do like to be noticed because I am jealous and I need attention. When I want to go out and she takes too long, I start talking to her.  It is how I express myself.   I have a lot to say and I want to be acknowledged. I also like to go to my Grandma’s because I am top dog there. She lets me sit on her lap for hours and gives me constant rubs. I think it is what I seek and need. Love, attention and a lot of treats.”
